Bristol City Council ::

Details
Bristol City Council took over this historic Bonded tobacco warehouse for additional office space. Also the Historic City records would be located on the ground floor to offer easy access by members of the public. The 8 floor building has solid concrete floors with very low headroom which presented the technical design team with some difficulty when deciding how to heat the open plan layout on the upper floors.

Water based heating had been discounted because of the risk of damaging the historic records below, so electric storage fan heaters were the best solution all round. The Prefect 4 Series was adopted to control the complete heating installation from a central point using Mains Borne Signalling techniques. The electrical installation was also simplified dramatically because the 4000 Series switched off-peak elements on every heater - so removing any need of two circuits to each unit and offering the client a 40% saving on his cost. The entire system is weather compensated to ensure optimal economy whilst operating in harmony with the buildings ventilation system. The open plan offices can be heated to suit every individual's needs as each heater can be boosted to provide just the right level of comfort throughout the day.
