The Chy an Albany hotel occupies a wonderfully elevated site overlooking St Ives Bay, and was.riginally built as three large Edwardian Houses for local Sea Captains, the building was converted into a hotel in the 1920`s, before spending a short time as a school for evacuee children during WW2. The current owners have tastefully refurbished the hotel providing very comfortable accommodation that retains much of the charm of the original building.
Guest satisfaction is a priority for the managment team, so accurate simple to use heating control is a must to ensure this aim is achieved. Prefect Controls were asked to devise a control strategy that would satisfy the demands of guests whilst providing management with the flexibility to react easily to changes in seasonal heating needs.
Prefect Controls’ experience in the hotel and student residential markets provided a useful insight to expectations of heating systems, as well as a clear understanding of operators’ need to manage cost. So, in close collaboration with the client and his electrical contractor, the PRE2000 central control system was proposed to achieve levels of control required whilst avoiding uneconomic cost.
The unique ability of the PRE2000 Series to integrate seamlessly with the hotel’s computerised management system, makes the installation extremely easy to use and it now controls heating profiles all year round throughout the hotel. Extra convenience is assured by automatic hyperlink to the “advance reservations file” in the management program, enabling the system to anticipate arrivals and give comfortable temperatures in occupied rooms, whilst limiting unoccupied rooms to an energy saving “set-back” level.
The system operates by transmitting digital command signals along the existing mains network (Mains Borne Signalling). So - no pilot wiring! The system was installed in just a couple of days, and was easily planned into the electrical installation schedule. Extensions to the system in the future will be equally simple.
